Mrs. Keller...Mrs. Keller...can I???

Well I guess I'll be hearing alot of this starting in February. Why you ask?? Well I was offered the job as Family and Consumer Science (or "Home Ec" as we used to call it) teacher at North Sand Mountain school. I'm very excited to get this opportunity. I'll get to do all the fun stuff that I don't have time to do, like cooking and sewing or at least talk about it and have the students do it. I think it will be alot of fun...plus, better benefits all around for our family. I still have a little bit of a drive but shorter than what I do now. It will just give me time to drink my coffee and eat breakfast! My last day at the dialysis unit will be at the end of January and I will start at NSM on February 2nd. I sure will miss my friends at Davita and all my patients, but I feel this is an answered prayer for us. Wish me luck and I'm sure I'll need alot of prayers...I'll be teaching high school you know!

P.S. Everyone's Christmas cards are on the way. I seem to have the hardest time getting to the post office to get stamps!!

Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow

Did you have snow at your house this past Monday morning? We had approximately 1/2 to 1 inch by mid morning. It looked very pretty. Landon, Bomar and Macy seemed to be excited too!

More details on Landon's VUR...

I talked with the nurse at Dr. Hicks office this week. She said Landon has grade IV reflux....which is high but better than grade V. She said it is much more difficult and takes longer to grow out of it at this stage. We don't see him again until February unless something comes up. So we will just pray that Landon is a "quick grower" out of it!!

Appointment with Dr. Hicks, Urologist

We had an appointment with Landon's Urologist on Friday. He has a pretty cool office for kids. In the waiting room was all kinds of jungle animals on the walls. Landon really liked it. In the exam room was clouds and airplanes. They only time he had a fit was when he had to stand on the scales by himself to be weighed. Luckily, they did not stick him or anything, so hopefully he will not always be terrified of doctors offices!
So...Dr Hicks said he has VUR (reflux) as I previously mentioned. He did not feel he has "post urethral(?) valves" as mentioned to me while in the hospital. As he was showing me the x-ray pictures taken during the VCUG (the test where they put dye in the bladder), he was referring to the urethra which is the tube by which the urine leaves the bladder. So I still don't know exactly what that is, except that Landon does not have that particular problem.
He wants to monitor him and see if he will grow out of it. He will keep him on antibiotics 3x day for 2 weeks and then once daily until further notice to help prevent infection. They mention this in most material I have read on VUR. If he ends up with another infection, he said he would probably do surgery. We go see Dr. Hicks every 3 months and they do tests periodically to see if the reflux is getting better.
I plan to call him next week as I have a few more questions. He'll probably think I'm "psyco-mom", but who cares!! Who wouldn't be concerned about a sweet little boy who gives "sugar" to his toy lizard!

Update on Landon

Here's some more pictures from the hospital.

We got to come home last night (Wednesday). It was about 8:30 when we got home but at least we were home! Below is a picture of Landon loving on his puppy while drinking his milk before bedtime.

Landon is still feeling better. He was excited to get to play with his toys again...it has been a week and a half since he felt like playing. He had the VCUG done and we did not get an offical report but it seems he has kidney reflux, grade 5 (the highest) which is supposedly caused by an insufficient valve mechanism located at the top of the bladder (where the ureters connect to the bladder from the kidneys). Best I can tell by internet research, this is called Primary VUR. I don't want to say too much because I'm not sure I know completely what I'm talking about. We are scheduled to see the urologist tomorrow and I will get more details.

We appreciate all the calls and requests of concern for Landon. Please continue to keep him in your prayers!

Landon's good moments

PLEASE PRAY FOR LANDON TO GET BETTER

Landon started having virus-like symptoms last Monday. We thought it was the "stomach virus" that is going around. By Thursday, he seemed to getting better but still having fever/vomiting on and off. After a shot of strong antibiotics and some lab tests he did not show any change. So on Friday, the doctor admitted him to Huntsville Hospital to monitor and run tests. Several things have been ruled out but they are still not completely sure because he is still having fevers. Right now they are treating him for Kidney infection but don't really know what would be going on to cause that. The doctors main goal now is to keep the fever from returning and then investigate the cause.
I know there is alot of people praying for Landon. THANK YOU!! Please spread the word and continue.

VACATION!!!!

Finally time for vacation! We will be heading down to Fort Morgan (Gulf Shores) this weekend. We will be thinking of everyone back home while we are laying on the beach, drinking coffee on the deck, shopping, visiting animals at the zoo, eating some good seafood and all that good stuff....not to mention NOT WORKING! YEAH!!
We will return middle of next week, so hopefully I will have some beach pictures posted soon. If anyone would like to come and clean my house while we are gone, please feel free ;-)

PLEASE PRAY FOR THE MILLICAN FAMILY

Please keep Billy, Roxanne and Tori in your prayers. Their son Colby was killed in a 4-wheeler accident on Friday afternoon. Colby was 7 years old. I can't even start to imagine what they are going through. Please remember them and their families during this tragic time.

Bubbles??

This is a typical afternoon at the Keller house. Bomar likes the bubbles just as much as Landon does.

Hot Rod??

Landon looks like he's in a 4-wheeler race! He sure is serious about it!

Hard to say goodbye...

In Loving Memory

Lowell Wright
November 12, 1950 -- July 25, 2008
My Uncle Lowell lost his battle with cancer on Friday July 25, 2008. He was first diagnosed in July 2005 with prostate cancer. Approximately 1 year later they found that it was metastasized to the bone, then they found a brain tumor beginning of this year. He never gave up fighting but the Lord decided that it was his time to go. Please keep his family in your prayers!

Happy 4th of July!!

Starting to slack already....it's been 15 days since the last post. I wanted to try for once a week but oh well. I've been pretty busy with school lately. If I can just make it to Aug 4th....then I will have a break until Aug 28th.

Hope everyone had a great 4th of July! Below is a picture of Landon and his cousins Jaden and Jarrett on the way to watch fireworks.

We went to Henagar to watch fireworks from the potato festival. I tried to adjust my camera to get some pictures of the fireworks. I got a few neat looking ones. You might not can see it very well but here's one below.

We had a cookout here at our house for my family. I will have to post some pictures later because all the ones I took were not good...I forgot to change the settings on the camera back to normal after taking pictures of the fireworks.

Gone fishin'

Landon's first fishing experience!

He really enjoyed holding the fishing rod. He had one his size, however he didn't like it as much as the "real" fishing rod. He kept pointing at the water and saying "fish". Aunt Sheila caught a good size catfish. Papa Tommy caught a baby fish of some kind. Landon and I mostly had a few nibbles...however we did get a BIG catfish on the line. (He jumped up out of the water...we had witnesses!!) Landon was holding the rod when the floater went under. Unfortunately, Landon didn't understand that I had to take the rod to reel it in. Needless to say, if you look at the picture below....the fish got away! :-(

Oh, well....maybe next time!

Another week...

End of the week.....finally!! Not that I'm wishing my time away, I just wish the work week would go faster and the weekend would go slower...I think that evens out. Not much happening this week, so here's a couple of pictures for you...

Current day update....

I finally started this blog! Lets see if I can keep it up???

We are staying busy, as always. Kevin is starting to work 6 days a week pretty regular now. Plus it is getting HOT, HOT, HOT! You would think they would work less during the summer. But having plenty of work to do is always better than not having work to do, huh? I've decided to go back to school to teach high school math. It will be difficult I'm sure, but it will be worth it in the long run...being closer to home, good benefits/retirement, good work schedule, etc. I'm still working but at least I'm back to 32 hours per week. Landon is silly as ever!! He is becoming mischevious (?spelling--good thing I'm not going to become an english teacher) and just PURE BOY!! I'll try to get some recent pics or maybe even video of him dancing on here soon. We'll have to see how my internet connection tolerates that...it may take a day to download video??

March 2008

Landon's first hair cut. Thanks to Gran!! Who knows how we would have gotten it done without cheerios, baby einstein videos and eventually a nap! We thought about letting him become "Mullet Baby" as you can see in the second picture; however, we decided to continue cutting until we got the handsome little boy you see in the third picture. I think we made a good choice! Doesn't it make him look 6 months older?
